West Jakarta SDA Sub-agency Keeps Intensifying Mud Dredging

The West Jakarta Water Resources (SDA) Sub-agency keeps intensifying mud dredging in rivers, reservoirs, and connecting channels. Besides maintenance, this effort is made to optimally accommodate water in large quantities, especially during rainy season that aims to minimize inundation.

This is a routine action to accommodate water capacity

According to Purwanti, Sub-agency Head of West Jakarta SDA, this year, river dredging action would be intensified at 13 spots.

"This is a routine action to accommodate water capacity, including as maintenance," she expressed, Friday (6/9).

Those 13 spots are Mookervart River (Cengkareng Red Traffic Light, Rawa Buaya), Duri River (in front of Duri Tambora Train Station), Srengseng Urban Forest Lake (Kembangan), Semanan River (Semanan Indah Park, Duri Kosambi), Peternakan II Connecting Channel (Kapuk).

Then Kamal Benda Connecting Channel (Kalideres), Bojong Indah Reservoir (Rawa Buaya), Tomang Barat Reservoir, Citra II Connecting Channel, Satu Maret Connecting Channel (Kalideres), Pesanggrahan River Crossing Channel (Kebon Jeruk), Taman Palem Connecting Channel (Cengkareng), and Angke River (behind Trisula Center).

"It is done because they are prone to inundation when it rains," he expressed.

Of 13 spots, some of which have been under construction since last year, such as Tomang Reservoir, Srengseng City Forest Lake, Angke River, Bojong Indah Reservoir, and Pesanggrahan River.

"The average dredging is one meter deep. We also deploy heavy equipment. Generally, in each location, we deploy two excavators that are adapted to field conditions. The excavators range from amphibious, long arm, and spider types," she explained.

She added the length of mud dredging varies from 200 meters to more than 500 meters. He revealed, dredging mud at several points of the connecting channel is expected to be completed next month. As for dredging rivers, lakes, and reservoirs, it is targeted to be completed by the end of this year.

"By dredging, hopefully, when there is heavy rain with a long intensity, the area can be free of inundation or if inundation occurs, the water will recede quickly," he stated.
